The video was posted on Twitter and showed the young man offering to pay as the woman looked stressed.
A heartwarming video showed a kind man stepping in to pay the "ridiculous" baggage fee of a concerned mother at Ibiza Airport. The two passengers were to set to board the Ryanair flight when the mother-of-three was told that her bag was too big to be carried on board. The distressed mother looked helpless as the staff told her she had to cough up close to $65 as a baggage fee at the Ibiza airport. The incident happened as other passengers were preparing to board a flight to Stansted airport. The Ryanair staff demanded that she pay the $65 despite few other passengers testifying that the plane was half empty. The mom's interaction with the staff was being recorded when a young Black man stepped up and offered to take care of it for her, reported the Daily Mail.
amazing gesture by this guy.... i hope karma treats him well.... and this video shows Ryanair up for showing no compassion during these hard times.... especially on a half full flight !!— Eamonn Kenny Utag (@eamonnkenny14) October 23, 2020
The person recording the video posted the video and called the young man a "hero." The video shows the young mom's two kids running around her as she struggled to process that she would have to pay $65 which she didn't seem to have. She can be seen running her hands through her hair in stress, asking the airplane staff if they can do anything. The young man can be seen checking his phone near the boarding gate as the staff spoke to the mom. As he overhears the conversation, he steps and lets the woman know he'll pay for her. He tells her, "It's alright, it's alright." The woman looks at him gratefully and buries her face in her hands as he comforts her. She then breaks down and starts to cry. "Don't worry I'll pay for you," the man can be heard saying. He walks up to the desk and hands over his card to the helpdesk.
The man checks with Ryanair if they have changed their baggage allowance sizing. The woman was clearly in distress. As the woman stands waiting, the older of her two children tells the younger brother, "No, no, mama is upset" in a bid to stop their games for a bit. The woman tries to compose herself. The video ends with the man waiting for the payment to go through. The video was posted on Twitter by the stranger who captioned the video: Well done to this young hero for paying the ridiculous Ryanair baggage charges for a distressed mother traveling with three kids (who wasn't getting any leniency from ground staff). The flight from Ibiza to Stansted was half empty, not sure what difference a few cm would make.
As per the existing Ryanair's cabin baggage rules, luggage must fit under the seat in front and shouldn't be bigger than 40x20x25cm. Any luggage that doesn't fit the criteria mentioned will have to pay an additional $65 as a baggage fee. Twitter was flooded with kind words for the young man. Bridget Hayward wrote: This young man is an absolute star for stepping in to help. Geraint Devils Evan added: Wow, huge respect to this gentleman who paid the excess baggage charges for this distressed mum and her kids. Cool Calm Poch commented, There's hope for humanity. Lisa Day echoed similar thoughts, writing, This young man and others in the younger generations have restored my faith in humanity, they will steer the future right if we allow them the room to shine.
The passenger later added that the young man preferred to remain anonymous, "Great kid, isn't he? No idea who he is though. Kept himself to himself and acted honorably and discreetly without a fuss." The 46-year-old who filmed spoke about the situation. "As far as I could tell, the mother with her children had got caught out with a bag that exceeded the allowance on her ticket. She was upset and rather tearful while also trying to keep an eye on her kids. By the time I figured out what was going on, a young man stepped up to the ground handling staff and was heard to say "it's okay, I'll pay."
